Through the looking glass, a sensation glimmers. Peek presents a rich statement of reflection and depth with the unveiling of her latest EP: Turn the Lights On. Representing the more psychedelic, ethereal side of Dubs Alive Records, Peek’s emotive EP interweaves elements of melodic Techno, Purple synthesis, and Deep Dubstep into an instantly classic, DJ-able collection of go to recordings.

The title track ‘Turn the Lights On’ pays homage to last call and the energies that exist as the darkest hours of night fade. Like a dream pillow floating on polyrhythmic synthesized waves, the tune rolls through lush gardens of organ and relaxing sine wave sub bass, defining a sound equally apropos for the warm up or cool down to a mystical trip. The smooth half-time feel and mellow mood prime the space for the delayed vocal cuts, defining the somber underpinning of Peek’s contemplative work.

Filtered repetitions deceive the minds eye as you experience the full frequency spectrum resonate through your body. Settle into the sensual comfort of ‘Silk.’ Undulating envelopes and Techno chords moan. Pulsing percussion drives - Soul synths wail. Silk embodies Peek’s tasteful combination of melodic voices and minimal composition. Relentlessly soothing, this luscious journey races through new dimensions, introducing sounds from the future through the comfort of modernity.

The spacious and funky ‘Silk Remix’ from Fish Finger compliments Peek’s original without fully diverging from the initial intent. Intensified percussion and dub elements coalesce with a hard-hitting kick, easily translating from the hi-fi to the pumping club floor. While the first half of the tune swaggers from dubby minimal sub basslines, the breaky double-time feel of the second drop highlights the dance floor potential of the source material.

Rounding out the release, Prism’s ‘Stuck in ’95 Silk Remix’ is a stunning throwback to the historic jungle and break cultures. While kicking off into a classic break filled bass roller, the tune develops immensely, transitioning from 140 to 160 BPM, peaking with Prism flexing his true junglist chops. As if this expert production was not pleasing enough, the remix was deftly crafted almost exclusively from the original samples.
